Sun Tunnels is an earthwork sculpture created by artist Nancy Holt in 1976. It consists of four large concrete cylinders that make a cross shape. During the winter and summer solstice, the sun aligns with the tunnels at sunrise and sunset, creating a unique visual experience for visitors. The cylinders also have smaller holes in their sides that represent the constellations Draco, Perseus, Columba, and Capricorn.
To get to the tunnels, visitors need to go down a dirt road in the isolated west desert of Utah, so be sure to check the weather and pack accordingly.
