The Jailhouse

This jailhouse, built in about 1870, was originally Bear Lake County Jail, and was located in Paris. About thirty years ago, the owners of Bear Lake Handicrafts moved the historic building to this site in St. Charles in order to help preserve its history and provide a home for the work of local craftspeople. The jailhouse has also been the home of the Paris Post, a local newspaper, and later an abstract office. In its original use, it must have been a formidable structure with its stacked 2X6 construction, iron bars and cell walls. Today, the owners of The Jailhouse would love to have you come and browse the delightful antiques and local handicrafts and decorations, and muse about the happenings of the past.
